What a way for such a legend to go out.
Almost immediately as the news came out, fans across the globe began downloading his famous songs and movies to honor their idol, and the response was pretty overwhelming.
As you may have heard, David’s 27th studio album dropped January 8 — just two days ahead of his untimely death — and Blackstar is actually set to become his first-ever Billboard No. 1 album in the United States.
Ziggy Stardust even achieved the impossible by dethroning Adele‘s 25 for the first time since it dropped back in 2015; although we hate the circumstances that led to the news.
Similarly, David’s Blackstar is also the No. 1 album on iTunes, while The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, Best of Bowie, and Hunky Dory each managed to crack the Top 10, with a further nine other albums in the Top 30.
We think it’s safe to say that David’s loss is going to be felt by the music industry for years to come.
Rest in peace, Mr. Bowie.
