Joey Feek is truly an inspiration.
The country songstress first took the stage at the age of six to perform Dolly Parton‘s Coat of Many Colors at her school talent show.
Now over three decades later, the 40-year-old continues to sing as she fights for her life against cervical cancer.
Joey is half of the duo Joey + Rory with her husband Rory Feek, who has been documenting their family’s journey via his blog This Life I Live.
During Joey’s unsuccessful and grueling chemotherapy treatments (before her decision to enter hospice care), the Grammy-nominated pair embarked on recording their latest album Hymns That Are Important to Us — which will be available February.
Rory told People that his bride made it a priority to complete the project:
“She would sing into a microphone that we had set up in our room. It wasn’t easy, but it was important to her. Those are moments I’ll never forget.”
As Joey’s health declines, she is focusing on spending time with her loved ones and 23-month-old daughter Indiana:
“Both Joey and I only hope that these songs and these words can touch people and bring some joy and light to them in their times of need, the way that they have to us. Selfishly, I hope the whole world gets to discover what an amazing singer and woman my beautiful wife is, and that her music outlives not only the both of us, but also our children’s children’s children.”
The deluxe version of the emotional album will be available exclusively at Cracker Barrel and will include personal notes and family photos. Songs include Christian classics like Jesus Loves Me and Take My Hand, Precious Lord — which speak to Joey’s enduring faith:
“Even now, in her hospital bed – thin and hurting – her eyes light up whenever she talks about her faith. Some people would be discouraged in Joey’s position and question their faith in God, but not her. She is just as passionate and strong in her beliefs as ever. She would be the first to tell you, He is with us.”
We continue to pray for a miracle during this family’s difficult time.
