“How did you know not to marry him?” 64-year-old Stern asked Paltrow of her former on-again, off-again beau, whom she dated from 1997 to 2000. “You were never in love with him.”
The cookbook author then explained the unique nature of her relationship with the Argo director, now 45. “It’s interesting. I think there’s certain boyfriends where you are trying to work stuff out, right? Like, you’re trying to heal certain stuff from your childhood and he was very much a lesson in that way,” she explained. “I’m not sure exactly what I was trying to heal in that instance, but it was … he was, you know. It was specific.”
Paltrow, who is now engaged to American Horror Story producer Brad Falchuck, previously opened up about her romance with Affleck while speaking to the Shock Jock in 2015. “[He] was not in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend,” she said of the Justice League star.
The Iron Man actress went on to marry Chris Martin in 2003. The exes, who share daughter Apple, 14, and son Moses, 12, “consciously uncoupled” in 2014. Us Weekly exclusively revealed Paltrow and 47-year-old Falchuck’s engagement in November 2017.
The blonde beauty also opened up about her “fantastic” new love while speaking to Stern on Wednesday. “Neither of us want kids,” she said of the former Glee writer, who shares son Brody and daughter Isabella with ex-wife Suzanne Bukinik. “We’re on the same team. It’s always tricky with kids and trying to gently blend families.”
Straddling the fence. Manchester by the Sea director Kenneth Lonergan is denouncing the treatment of the film’s star Casey Affleck amid the #MeToo and Time’s Up movements, which support women who are victims of sexual harassment and abuse.
Lonergan spoke to Variety on Wednesday, April 4, about the Oscar winner, whom he directed in the 2016 film, and whether he was treated unfairly as Hollywood reacts to a rash of sexual misconduct claims. “I couldn’t be more all for the #MeToo movement and I couldn’t feel more strongly that he’s been treated abominably,” Lonergan said. “It’s not good for anybody.”
As previously reported, Affleck, 42, was accused of sexual harassment by two women who worked on the set of his film I’m Still Here in 2010. The actor denied the accusations, and both lawsuits were settled outside of court.
Some spoke out in the wake of Affleck’s 2017 Oscar win, saying he shouldn’t have been nominated at all. Lonergan, 55, doesn’t agree: “People really don’t know what they are talking about, I’m afraid. And I’m afraid they are doing it in the name of a very good cause.”
Lonergan has come to Affleck’s defense before. After Connor Aberle, a student from Lonergan’s alma mater, Wesleyan University, wrote an op-ed implicating the school for being complicit in Affleck’s success by promoting Lonergan, the Oscar-winning screenwriter responded, “He writes as if Casey Affleck were actually guilty of a crime … Like most civil suits, this one was settled out of court by mutual consent on undisclosed terms … In other words nothing was proved or disproved. So how does Mr. Aberle dare to write as if he knows who was telling the truth and who was not?”
Affleck spoke to the Boston Globe about the allegations following his Academy Award win in February 2017. “I believe that any kind of mistreatment of anyone for any reason is unacceptable and abhorrent, and everyone deserves to be treated with respect in the workplace and anywhere else.”
He added, “There’s really nothing I can do about it. Other than live my life the way I know to live it and to speak to what my own values are and how I try to live by them all the time.”
More recently, the Gone Baby Gone star chose not to present the Best Actress award at the 2018 Oscars, breaking the tradition of the previous year’s Best Actor winner giving out the statue. During this year’s award season, a number of actresses chose to wear black in solidarity with women who are victims of sexual abuse and harassment, while some award-winners took to the stage to speak out about the issue. A source told Deadline in January, “He was in a no-win situation, with all the attention surrounding the #MeToo movement. The specter of Affleck presenting would have created controversy.”
The 45-year-old actor, who is in the Aloha state to shoot his new film Triple Frontier, and the TV producer, 37, cooled off in the ocean.
Affleck was previously spotted on the beach earlier this month revealing his massive back tattoo.

It’s been a rough few weeks for Ben Affleck, aka Batfleck, aka Beantown Benny, aka He of the Horrendous the Back Tatt That Looks Like Something From A Blacklight Poster in a Head Shop.
For one thing, the whole world has been roasting Affleck’s tattoo for the very good reason that it’s the ugliest sight anyone has laid eyes on since that time Trump went golfing in white shorts.
But there’s more here than just that just the hilarity that is the #PhoenixFail.
You see, Ben has been in Sad Affleck mode in a big way lately.
His melancholia has reached the point that even the tortoise shell-framed Vassar grads at The New Yorker were forced to take a break from writing captions for sketches of animals in therapists’ offices in order to pen a typically high-minded assessment of Ben’s mental state.
Yes, even the actor’s number one confidante, Matt Damon, has enjoyed ragging on Affleck in recent weeks, a development that’s almost certainly led Ben to text his friend something along the lines of “I don’t like them apples at all, Matt!”
Needless to say, these are trying times in the House of Affleck.
Fortunately, Ben has been able to find solace in the fact that he’s still rich and famous and thus, will always be able to find a partner willing to overlook his giant mythological back bird.
Ben has been dating Lindsay Shookus for the better part of the past year, but it seems there was a brief hiatus in the relationship that began around the same time as Ben’s latest round of troubles.
However, according to People magazine, Affleck and Shookus are 100 percent back on these days.
The couple was spotted hanging out in Hawaii earlier this week, and witnesses say they looked very coupled-up.
They may have even engaged in a bit of canoodling.
Sources tell People that Ben and Lindsay are “not rushing anything,” but they “enjoy each other’s company” and “are in a committed relationship.”
Of course, the question on the mind of many Ben-watchers is: are Affleck and Shookus still drinking together?
Yes, even after Ben’s multiple stints in rehab, he and Lindsay were spotted hitting the sauce together during their travels.
Fortunately, it sounds as though Ben has put the plug in the jug for good these days, and he and Lindsay reportedly drank nothing stronger than coconut water during their time on the big island:
“He has been very on top of his health and responsible,” added the source.
“He wants to be sober and healthy.”
Sounds like Ben might finally be turning things around!
If only there were some sort of mythical creature whose story might provide a suitable analogy for Affleck’s current state of rebirth.
Ben Affleck showed off his huge back tattoo during a training session for a movie, despite the fact he once claimed it was not real.
The Justice League actor, 45, exposed the permanent ink while training alongside his Triple Frontier costars, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Oscar Isaac, in Hawaii on Thursday, March 15, as they prepared for the movie while working out on the beach.
The massive tattoo, featuring a colorful phoenix spreading its wings, made its first appearance in December 2015, when Affleck was working on the set of Live by Night. The Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star reportedly got the tattoo, which symbolizes rebirth, after then-wife Jennifer Garner filed for divorce after 10 years of marriage. The pair share children Violet, 12, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel, 6.
While an insider told Us Weekly at the time that Affleck had gotten the tatt at home, he later denied that it was permanent, explaining the tattoo of the mythological creature was actually for a movie. “I actually do have a number of tattoos … but I try to have them in places where you don’t have to do a lot of cover up,” he told Extra TV‘s Mario Lopez. “They get sort of addictive, tattoos, after awhile.”
However, Garner hinted at the tattoo being the real deal while speaking out about it in a February 2016 interview with Vanity Fair: “You know what we would say in my hometown about that? ‘Bless his heart.’ A phoenix rising from the ashes. Am I the ashes in this scenario? I take umbrage. I refuse to be the ashes.”

“She put her heart and soul into fixing the relationship and wanted so desperately to turn things around for the children’s sake as well as theirs,” says a pal. “She forgave him for so much, and still he couldn’t change.”
That didn’t stop the Oscar winner from trying to win his ex back after the divorce, an insider reveals in the new issue of Us Weekly. Since the April 2017 divorce filing, “he’s begged her to come back several times, but she has no interest,” says the insider.
Yes, even though the Batman v. Superman actor, 45, has officially moved on to Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus, he had at one point been telling friends he wanted his ex back. (A source close to the couple denies Affleck is “looking back,” insisting, “When they filed and decided they were moving on, that was it.”)
For the Peppermint actress, also 45, his efforts were ultimately too little, too late. But for a brief moment, reveals another source, a reconciliation seemed possible. As Us previously reported, Garner helped Affleck enter rehab for alcohol abuse late last year. “When Ben was in rehab, Jennifer was there every day, visiting,” says the source. “They did family counseling to work on their relationship.”
“Things looked positive,” the source says of the parents, who share children Violet, 12, Seraphina, 9, and Samuel, 6. “Jennifer was very caring, very present. They both wanted it to work.”
Ultimately, Garner was reminded of the struggles her ex would always have. The source close to the duo notes, however, “there were a number of reasons” their relationship failed. And Affleck “is continuing to work on himself and stay healthy.”
The pair announced their separation on June 30, 2015, 10 years after they wed on June 29, 2005.
Now, Affleck has been with Shookus, 37, for nearly a year. “He loves and adores her,” says a source. “This is a relationship he takes seriously.”
The Alias alum, too, is open to loving again. Recently, Garner has begun going on few quiet L.A. dates with new men — including one Affleck look-alike, says a source. “Jen is ready to go with her feelings and give love another try,” explains the pal.
And while it’s “no exaggeration to say that Ben broke her heart and left her in a terrible place emotionally,” adds the pal, “it’s been almost three years since they called it quits. It’s time for her to move on.”

Macaulay Culkin unleashed an eight-hour Twitter rant on Oscars Sunday, March 4, pegged to the 2018 Academy Awards and targeted several male actors who have been accused of sexual misconduct.
“I will be live tweeting the Oscars tonight, but I won’t be watching them. WHA!? That’s crazy,” he wrote before taking aim at Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, Casey Affleck and James Franco. (None of the men were in the audience at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.)
“EXCLUSIVE: I heard Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein were going to come disguised as a very tall man in a long trench coat but they got busted by security,” he wrote. “Casey Affleck couldn’t make it cause he was stuck in the 1950s.”
Referencing Franco’s movie The Disaster Artist, he quipped: “James Franco is a disaster. Artists?” The Home Alone alum, 37, added that the drama “was the worst harry potter movie this year.”
Throughout the evening, Culkin — who was dressed in a tuxedo — shared photos of himself doing anything but tuning in to the ABC broadcast. In the photos, he is playing with a toy truck, painting his toenails, strumming a guitar and stirring a pot of ramen.
None of the men mentioned in Culkin’s tweetstorm have responded to the digs, but all have previously responded to the allegations of sexual misconduct.
As previously reported, 42-year-old Affleck was accused of sexual harassment in 2008 and 2009 by two women working on the indie film I’m Still Here. According to Time, one of the women alleged he crawled into bed with her while she was sleeping. The women filed lawsuits against him, and both suits —one for $ 2 million and one for $ 2.25 million — were settled out of court for undisclosed amounts in 2010. That same year, Affleck denied the allegations, calling them “extortion.”
The actor, who won an Oscar for Manchester by the Sea last year, withdrew from presenting the award for best actress at the 2018 Oscars. Sources told Deadline: “He was in a no-win situation, with all the attention surrounding the #MeToo movement.”
Meanwhile, five women claimed in a Los Angeles Times report in January that Franco, 39, behaved inappropriately with them. His attorney disputed all of the allegations.
In October 2017, Star Trek: Discovery’s Anthony Rapp came forward with allegations that two-time Oscar winner Spacey, 58, made inappropriate sexual advances toward him when was 14. Spacey was then accused of sexual misconduct by eight current and former House of Cards employees. Spacey has denied all accusations.
More than 70 women have accused former studio head Weinstein, 65, of sexual harassment or assault. He he has denied all allegations of rape.
It’s been less than a year since we first learned that Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus are dating, but the couple has been moving at warp speed in recent months.
Affleck checked into rehab for the fourth time in December, and sources say he went straight from treatment to an apartment in New York that he now shares with Shookus.
And it seems moving in together isn’t the only major step forward the couple has taken in 2018.
Some insiders close to Ben and Lindsay say wedding bells are in the near future for the Oscar winner and the SNL producer.
Meanwhile, others claim they’ve already gotten hitched and are simply waiting for the right time to make the announcement.
Witnesses say Lindsay has been sporting some new bling on her left hand in recent weeks, but the jury’s still out as to whether it’s an engagement ring or a wedding band.
Whatever the case, it seems there’s no denying that Ben and Lindsay are head over heels for one another.
“He’s fallen hard,” an insider tells Life & Style.
“It’s no surprise that they’re now taking their relationship to the next level.”
There are conflicting accounts as to whether or not the knot has already been tied, but there’s no doubt these two are in it for the long haul.
“They both want to spend the rest of their lives together.”
“They can’t bear to be apart and spend every free moment they have together,”
One insider says the only thing holding the couple back is the fact that Ben’s divorce from Jennifer Garner is not yet finalized.
“It hasn’t been a straightforward procedure,” explains the source.
“They’ve spent months behind closed doors working out how to divide assets, finances and custody of their children.”
Yes, if there’s a downside to possessing tens of millions in assets (big if), it’s that having so much stuff makes a very complicated divorce.
“They are getting close to finalizing things. Once their divorces are both out of the way, Ben plans to walk down the aisle with Lindsay,” says one insider.
So it sounds like despite claims to the contrary, Ben and Lindsay are not yet married.
But it also sounds like they’ll be taking the plunge as soon as legally possible.
It’s been quite a tumultuous year for Ben Affleck.
2017 began with news that Affleck had completed rehab and attained sobriety again after relapsing following more than a decade of sobriety.
Sadly, it seems Ben’s battle with the bottle didn’t end there.
Radar Online is reporting that Affleck recently checked back into rehab, marking his third stint this year.
Insiders say the Oscar-winner was encouraged to seek treatment by his ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, and his brother, Casey Affleck.
“Ben relapsed,” a source tells the site.
“Jen and Casey are willing to try anything, and they don’t care if the methods are controversial.”
The “controversial methods” remark refers to Ben’s choice of treatment facility.
Affleck reportedly checked into Passages Malibu, which eschews the traditional 12-step method in favor of an “unorthodox holistic” approach to addiction.
Ben had previously been enrolled in an out-patient program, but according to a source close the actor, he recently decided that he needs a “constant support network” in order to remain sober.
Passages encourages patients to remain in treatment for a minimum of 45 days, and since Ben was first spotted at the facility on December 10, it seems he’ll remain at the facility through the holidays.
The source was unable to say for certain if Affleck will be able to see his three kids on Christmas, but notes that he is free to come and go from treatment as he sees fit:
“Ben isn’t a prisoner and is fully committed to seeing his children and fulfilling his work commitments outside the center,” the insider tells Radar.
Rumors that Ben was once again struggling with alcoholism began over the summer when he was spotted drinking with girlfriend Lindsay Shookus, once while traveling in New England, and again during a trip to her hometown of Buffalo, NY.
Shortly thereafter, Ben began his outpatient program, but it seems he felt he needed a more comprehensive approach to the problem.
Those who know him best say Affleck has been despondent over newly-surfaced reports about his past behavior.
Recent accusations of Affleck groping female colleagues and generally behaving inappropriately prior to his marriage have reportedly taken a considerable emotional toll on the 45-year-old.
Here’s hoping Ben is able to finally find a method of treatment that works for him.
In one interview, he spoke about the unfair “double standard” in how his Birth Of A Nation director Nate Parker and Manchester By The Sea star Casey Affleck were treated by the media and the industry.
With Nate in “director’s jail” and Casey having a Best Actor Oscar on his shelf, it’s easy to see his point.
However, the two men were accused of very different things as Armie took the time to explain in a lengthy apology to Affleck for the comparison.
The Call Me By Your Name star released a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, where his original interview appeared, saying:
“I would like to sincerely apologize to Casey and his family for my recent comments about him in my THR interview. Without knowing the facts about the civil lawsuits at issue (which I now understand were settled), I misspoke. I conflated sexual harassment cases with a criminal case involving sexual assault charges.
The cases in which Casey was involved were not criminal and instead involved civil claims from his 2010 movie I’m Still Here. While intending to make a social comment about double standards in general, I mistakenly compared reports of prior, public civil allegations that never proceeded to trial with a criminal case that was fully tried. I understand now that this was a poor comparison, which I deeply regret making.”
There definitely is a difference between the two charges, and the way they were resolved.
However, does that mean the observation of the double standard was incorrect? Yes, considering the charges were different, one would certainly expect Parker and Affleck to suffer proportional levels of public admonishment.
But that isn’t what happened. One got denounced, the other was given the biggest honor in Hollywood.
We guess what we’re asking is, do YOU think Casey Affleck deserved this apology??[Image via Adriana M. Barraza/WENN.]
It’s been three months since we first learned that Ben Affleck and Lindsay Shookus are dating, but there are many who believe the couple has been together much longer than that.
In fact, according to one persistent rumor that’s plagued the actor and the SNL producer from the start of their relationship, Ben started dating Lindsay while he was still married to Jennifer Garner.
We have our doubts about that one, as that would mean that Ben and Lindsay kept their relationship on the down-low for a full year after he and Garner separated, which seems impossible.
Ben’s notoriously secretive about his personal life, so we may never find out exactly when he started hooking up with Lindsay, but whatever the case, these two are definitely at the “serious” stage of their relationship.
How serious are they, you ask?
Well, it looks as though Affleck and Shookus are soon to purchase a pricey piece of real estate together.
Yes, according to TMZ, Ben and Lindsay have been house shopping, and an $ 18.5 million property in Santa Monica seems to have caught the couple’s eye.
Witnesses say Ben and Lindsay spent more than an hour touring the home, and she was spotted leaving the property with a spec sheet in her hand.
In order to fully appreciate the significance of this news, you have to understand that in Southern California, buying property together ranks above adopting a dog and just below adopting a child in terms on the spectrum of commitment gestures.
We’ve been hearing rumors about Ben and Lindsay getting engaged for months now, but we mostly dismissed them.
After all, Ben can barely commit to a superhero project, and getting married is a slightly bigger deal.
But if these two are buying a house together, all bets are off.
Granted, Lindsay doesn’t fit the mold of a typical Affleck significant other (She’s neither famous, nor named Jen.), but perhaps this is the dawn of a new era in Ben’s life.
Of course, there’s still the minor problem of the fact that Lindsay is based out of New York, and Ben seems to have no intention of leaving LA.
But maybe Affleck can pull some strings and have SNL relocated to the West Coast.
The guy’s effing Batman, and “live from Los Angeles” has a decent ring to it.
Ben Affleck was house hunting … no big surprise since he’s apparently in the market after moving out of the family home, but what’s interesting is that he brought his girlfriend along for the ride. Ben and Lindsay Shookus were all over the west…
It’s been three months since the world learned that Ben Affleck is dating Lindsay Shookus.
The news came more than two years after Ben’s separation from Jennifer Garner, and based on photos of the former couple, it seems that they’ve remained on good terms despite Affleck’s new romance.
But appearances can be deceiving (especially when celebs know they’re getting papped), and insiders are now claiming that Jen has issued a strict set of rules regarding Ben’s new relationship.
According to Radar Online, Garner recently revealed to Affleck that she’d like to maintain a “no-fly zone” around Violet, 11, Seraphina, 8, and Samuel, 5, meaning that neither parent will introduce the kids to anyone that they’re dating.
It’s basically Jen’s roundabout way of saying she doesn’t want Lindsay around her kids.
“The children still don’t know Lindsay and they’ve never met,” a source tells Radar, adding:
“Jen intends to keep it that way.”
It sounds as though Jen would like to keep Shookus as far away from her family as possible, at least for the time being.
Of course, that doesn’t mean she’s never crossed paths with Lindsay herself:
“Ben met Lindsay at an SNL party — and Jen was there,” revealed another source.
“She feels completely betrayed.”
The reasons for Jen’s strict anti-Shookus policy are unclear, but that hasn’t stopped fans from wildly speculating:
Currently, the leading theory is that Jen doesn’t like that Ben has been spotted drinking with Lindsay despite the fact that he just completed rehab for alcoholism back in March.
That would certainly make sense, as Garner has reportedly issued ultimatums about Affleck’s drinking several times both during their marriage and after their spilt.
Unfortunately, it seems Jen’s strict Lindsay ban is currently resulting in Ben spending less time with his kids.
“Ben didn’t take the kids on vacation this summer,” the insider tells Radar.
“Instead, he stayed with Lindsay. So Jen took them on a road trip from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, and then they spent a few days in Montana.”
The source also points out that earlier this month, Jen traveled with the kids to Texas for a Garner family reunion, while Ben and Lindsay hung out in New York.
You can’t really pin that one on Lindsay, though.
We don’t think Ben would be very welcome at Jen’s family reunion.
This article originally appeared on www.usmagazine.com: Jennifer Garner Confronted Lindsay Shookus About Ben Affleck Romance
Last week, we learned that Ben Affleck is dating Lindsay Shookus, a 37-year-old Saturday Night Live producer, whom he reportedly met while rehearsing an appearance on the show.
Affleck just finalized his divorce from Jennifer Garner in April, but the couple has been separated since 2015.
So surely there’s no great scandal in Ben moving on and dating someone new at this point, right?
Ha! This is the Batfleck we’re talking about, and whether it’s justified or not, there will always be countless pearl-clutching gasp-takes about everything he does.
And in this case, the situation might have involved actual clutching of pearls.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves …
As you may have heard, it’s been rumored that Ben cheated on Jennifer with Lindsay.
In fact, some have gone so far as to say that Affleck and Shookus carried on an affair behind Garner’s for years, and that the couple parted ways after Jen found out about it.
Conflicting stories abound, but right now, the consensus seems to be that Garner is pissed about the relationship, which lends credence to the theory that it overlapped with her marriage.
One insider tells Radar Online that Ben and Lindsay hit it off from the first time they met, and
“There was an immediate spark,” says a source close to the situation.
“Ben and Lindsay flirted and stayed in touch through Ben’s appearances on SNL.”
Apparently, Affleck and Shookus weren’t great at keeping things on the down-low, and Jen found out about the affair after realizing that Ben had made several extravagant jewelry purchases.
“Jen met face-to-face with Lindsay and demanded she return the jewelry,” the source revealed.
“Lindsay says she’d return it, but only if Ben asked for it back.”
Yes, the insider claims there was an actual face-to-face confrontation between Garner and Shookus.
Sounds like things came close to getting very ugly.
Fortunately, Garner didn’t feel the need to fake her own death and frame Ben for the murder.
Sorry, but it’s impossible to hear news of Ben Affleck marital troubles and not think of Gone Girl.
