Catt Sadler Reveals She’s Still Friends With Jason Kennedy After E! Pay Dispute

It’s been nearly four months since Catt Sadler left E! News over a pay disparity between her and Jason Kennedy, and while the entertainment host is certainly not done fighting for equal pay, she revealed that her relationship with her former cohost is on good terms.

“We’re friends,” the former Daily Pop host, 43, told Us at Equal Pay Day for Luna Bar on Monday, April 9. “My relationship hasn’t changed with any of the people … It’s no one’s fault and even as these stories come out about other male, female stars or other people, like where the male’s getting paid more, the guys aren’t the target. It’s the system that’s the problem. It’s the systematic way that things are, this pervasive gap. That’s the problem.”

She added, “That was my work family for many, many years and I love those people dearly.”

Us Weekly exclusively revealed in December 2017 that Sadler was quitting her job at E! after more than a decade at the network. She confirmed the news on her blog, TheCattWalk, explaining that she discovered a “massive disparity in pay” between her and Kennedy, 36. (E! told Us Weekly at the time that the network “compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles.”)

“It’s an honor now to have a platform and I realize so many women do not. But it’s about kind of empowering yourself,” Sadler told Us on Monday about her new role. “The resources are out there. I mean, thanks to companies like this and a lot of people that have really been organizing to make a difference, roll up their sleeves and do a little bit of the work to learn what the stats are, first of all, and that you’re not alone in this fight. There are many women and men that are joining together to make a difference and then use that to your advantage. It’s great to know your worth but you have to be able to act on it and pay inequality. There are many variables that contribute to where we are today, but there are definitely some things we can do ourselves to make a difference.”

Since her departure from E!, Sadler has received support from numerous celebrities, including Debra Messing, Jennifer Lawrence, Eva Longoria, Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman and Olivia Munn. The reporter, who called the encouragement “mind-blowing,” revealed to Us that the most surprising support came from comedian Amy Schumer.

“I didn’t expect Amy Schumer. I mean, how cool is that? And in such an organic way, that she’s hanging out on her Instagram and she’s like, ‘Yeah, what’s up with that?’” Sadler told Us. “She just like suddenly came to my defense and I was friendly with her but we weren’t buds or anything. But she was upset on my behalf just naturally on her own. So I was surprised by that and I’ve had several conversations with her since but she’s just another force that’s just like so bold, so not afraid, and we all have the women that we look to that inspire us. She is one of them.”

“Jennifer Lawrence is one of them. I mean, I idolize Natalie Portman. The fact that she stood up for me at the Golden Globes, so that’s what I hope to kind of continue to do,” Sadler added. “That’s why I want to do meaningful work because I hear from some of these girls who watched me on TV all these years, who want me to keep going on this issue and so they feel me now. So hopefully that’s the beauty of females and mentors and just getting inspired in general, so it’s cool.”

Fans can get involved with Sadler’s partnership with Luna Bar by utilizing the company’s “Negotiate Your Worth Checklist.” Luna Bar is also offering a 20 percent discount on all bars through Saturday, April 14, and is matching the discount amount with a donation to AAUW (American Association of University Women).

Catt Sadler Still Friends With Jason Kennedy After E! Pay Dispute — Says The Problem Is The System, Not Him!

No drama here…

As we reported in December 2017, Catt Sadler announced she was leaving E! after learning cohost Jason Kennedy “was making double [her] salary and has been for several years.”

According to an US Weekly source that same month, the female journalist made “about $ 600,000 per year,” while her male counterpart raked in “around $ 1 million a year, maybe $ 1.2 million.”

Despite the media frenzy, Sadler is still friendly with her former coworker.

On Monday, the 43-year-old attended Equal Pay Day for Luna Bar where she told Us Weekly:

“We’re friends… My relationship hasn’t changed with any of the people… It’s no one’s fault and even as these stories come out about other male, female stars or other people, like where the male’s getting paid more, the guys aren’t the target. It’s the system that’s the problem. It’s the systematic way that things are, this pervasive gap. That’s the problem… That was my work family for many, many years and I love those people dearly.”

In fact, in a December Instagram post, the former Daily Pop host told her followers “to please not place blame on [her] friend Jason Kennedy” as “it hurts [her] deeply to see that some are vilifying him.”

Controversy aside, Sadler is using her newfound platform to fight for equal pay, and to empower women from all walks of life.

“It’s an honor now to have a platform and I realize so many women do not. But it’s about kind of empowering yourself… The resources are out there.

Although she has received support from several A-list stars, she was most blown away by Amy Schumer‘s kind words.

“I didn’t expect Amy Schumer. I mean, how cool is that? And in such an organic way, that she’s hanging out on her Instagram and she’s like, ‘Yeah, what’s up with that?’… She just like suddenly came to my defense and I was friendly with her but we weren’t buds or anything. But she was upset on my behalf just naturally on her own. So I was surprised by that and I’ve had several conversations with her since but she’s just another force that’s just like so bold, so not afraid, and we all have the women that we look to that inspire us. She is one of them.”

Oh, and she appreciates Jennifer Lawrence and Natalie Portman vouching for her too.

“Jennifer Lawrence is one of them. I mean, I idolize Natalie Portman. The fact that she stood up for me at the Golden Globes, so that’s what I hope to kind of continue to do… That’s why I want to do meaningful work because I hear from some of these girls who watched me on TV all these years, who want me to keep going on this issue and so they feel me now. So hopefully that’s the beauty of females and mentors and just getting inspired in general, so it’s cool.”

As we reported in February, Sadler told Maria Menounos she may potentially sue E! as “it is unlawful to discriminate” based on gender.

Inside Molly and Jason Mesnick’s Life 9 Years After ‘The Bachelor’

From rose ceremonies to raising a family! The Bachelor’s Jason and Molly Mesnick exclusively checked in with Us Weekly and shared an update on life at home with their two children.

“We’re still living in the Seattle area and actually just built a new house about two years ago,” Molly, 33, told Us. “Jason is absolutely killing it in the real estate world and I am the morning show cohost on 106.1 KIIS FM.”

The radio personality also gushed about the couple’s daughter, Riley, and Jason’s son Ty from a previous marriage. “Ty just turned 13 — total teenager — and he’s even taller than me now!” the 5-foot-7 former reality star revealed. “Riley will be 5 in a couple weeks and is as girly as they come! If its pink or sparkles, she loves it.”

As for whether she’s followed Arie Luyendyk Jr.’s Bachelor journey? “I have been glued to Arie’s season because we met him a few years ago and think he’s such a charming guy!” Molly raved.

Although all is well today for the reality star couple, they faced backlash in 2009 after Jason, 41, broke up with his season’s winner, Melissa Rycroft, on After the Final Rose after admitting he still had feelings for Molly.

Arie made headlines on his Monday, March 5, season 22 finale for calling it quits with winner Becca Kufrin during one of their “happy couple weekends” post-show. Molly didn’t shy away from calling out the real estate agent via Twitter after he followed in her husband’s footsteps.

“Wouldn’t you consider learning from the mistakes of those before you —maybe call and ask what NOT to do… like filming the breakup?” she quipped on Monday.

Jason also took to Twitter to comment on the finale. When a fan asked if Arie reached out to him before calling off his engagement to Becca, Jason replied, “No, I wish he could have.”

The former lead told another Bachelor devotee that he has talked to Arie in the past and the race car driver “did seem sincere.” He also advised the Scottsdale resident to “not look at social media” or “leave the country” once the aftermath of his controversial decision settles in.

As for when he knew that Molly was the one instead of Melissa? “It was about two months later,” he tweeted.

After the Final Rose airs on ABC Tuesday, March 6, at 8 p.m. ET.

Kathie Lee Gifford Supports Jason Kennedy Amid Catt Sadler’s E! Exit

Kathie Lee Gifford has Jason Kennedy‘s back. The Today host took to Twitter to support Kennedy after he started getting backlash from fans after former colleague Catt Sadler left E! Entertainment over a pay disparity between the two. As Us Weekly exclusively revealed on Tuesday, December 19, and Sadler later confirmed, she cut ties with the network after she learned she was being paid less than Kennedy.

“@JasonKennedy1 When I make a list of the Godliest, sweetest men I know, you are right up there,” Gifford tweeted on Friday, December 22. “I would love to live in a world full of people like you and Lauren. Live in your Truth. There is your Peace.”

“love you KLG, you mean the world to us!” Kennedy, 36, responded. His wife, Lauren Scruggs, also replied with her own tweet, simply writing, “Love you <3.”

Gifford, who is a longtime family friend of the couple, attended their December 2014 wedding.

As previously reported, the fashion blogger defended her husband on Thursday, December 21, via Instagram.

“I believe in female empowerment and gender equality, but it’s heartbreaking that a network is being deemed sexist when that is simply not true,” Scruggs, 29, captioned a pic of the couple. “At one time my husband had a female co-anchor on E! News who made 3 times his salary,” she continued, alluding to Giuliana Rancic. “Women are paid accordingly on this network, and the difference in his salary versus hers did not affect Jason. He knows there are always more components to consider when determining one’s salary than gender alone. … Since Jason was named the permanent anchor of E! News over two years ago, he has had various co-hosts that rotate throughout the week. A permanent co-host has never been named since the last one left 6 months ago.”

Sadler, meanwhile, has said she has nothing against Kennedy and asked fans not to blame him for her departure.

“If I had one ask, it is to please not place blame on my friend Jason Kennedy. He has done right by me in every respect. It hurts me deeply to see that some are vilifying him,” she wrote in an Instagram on Thursday. “I repeat, his hands are tied on this matter and if you’re angry – rightfully so – direct that emotion at the decision makers who failed us, not him. All my love + gratitude.”

A source told Us exclusively on Friday that Sadler’s salary was at about $ 600,000 per year, while Kennedy makes around $ 1 million a year. “He was making more, but this has nothing to do with a male vs. female thing,” the source said. “It has nothing to do with gender, but rather seniority and Jason’s ranking at the company.”

On Tuesday, E! told Us in a statement: “E! compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles, regardless of gender. We appreciate Catt Sadler’s many contributions at E! News and wish her all the best following her decision to leave the network.”

Catt Sadler Leaves ‘E! News’ After Pay Dispute, Learning She Earns Less Than Jason Kennedy

Catt Sadler left E! News on Tuesday, December 19, over a pay dispute after learning she was paid less than cohost Jason Kennedy, multiple sources tell Us Weekly.

The 43-year-old, who was with the network for more than a decade, confirmed her departure in a tweet, writing, “It’s true. Today will be my last day on #DailyPop and @enews. I hope you’ll tune in so I can thank you for the memories. I love you guys SO much it hurts.”

“You’ve all got me crying like a baby,” she added in a second message. “I’m reading every single message. I will respond to them all after I make it through this difficult day. I love you so much and your words are providing me so much comfort. xx See you on @enews later this eve with my friend @JasonKennedy1.”

In a third tweet she wrote, “My gratitude runs so deep. My thank you to you the viewers on @enews tonight. I hope you’ll watch my farewell at 7 and 10:30p with @JasonKennedy1 xx”

Sources tell Us that Sadler decided to leave after trying to get E! execs to give her a pay rise to put her salary on par with Kennedy’s.

“Catt’s contract with E! was up and she recently found out that compared to her coworkers she was being very underpaid,” a source tells Us. “She found out Jason Kennedy makes significantly more than her, even though she does more work for the network and she was outraged. The network was not interested in negotiating with her to get her up to his salary.”

“She’s moving forward though and looking forward to the next chapter in her life,” the source adds. “She doesn’t blame Jason and Jason feels horrible about the discrepancy in salary. He loves Catt so much and was just as upset as she was to find out that she was being paid so much less. He thinks she will do amazing at whatever she does next and that E! made a big mistake.”

Kennedy shared a video with Sadler on Twitter on Tuesday and wrote, “Sending @IAmCattSadler off with lots of love and memories tonight at 7 & 10:30 @enews.”

E! said the following in a statement to Us on Tuesday: “E! compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles, regardless of gender. We appreciate Catt Sadler’s many contributions at E! News and wish her all the best following her decision to leave the network.”
