We have already heard much — too much — about Mark Schwahn‘s behavior.
But before The Royals there was One Tree Hill. In a statement earlier this year Sophia Bush and Hilarie Burton weighed in on their former boss’s behavior. But there’s a great story you’ve never heard.
“The first time Mark Schwahn grabbed my ass I hit him in front of six other producers. And I hit him fucking hard.”
Amazing! But sadly this wasn’t a TV show, and she didn’t get to walk away to a slow clap and never have to think about the jerk again. Schwahn was still the boss.
And, as she found out later, he took it out on her in the writers’ room:
“And he came back to LA and I was told years later by one of the then writers who became an EP that he came back being like, ‘That fucking entitled bitch, who does she think she is?'”
At least that writer had her back — or tried:
“And this very sweet man named Mike, who I love and who is like a ride or die for me, was like, ‘Maybe you just shouldn’t touch the girls.’ And, you know, Mark gave him the option of shut up and keep your job or get out.”
Sadly, that’s how it is in every workplace, isn’t it? A little power goes right to these jerks’ heads.
Or, as Sophia puts it:
“I mean look, we’re not the only group of girls who have had a boss who is a pig.”
She says when it came to OTH, “it was the best of times, it was the worst of times” — the worst thanks mostly to Schwahn:
“That show for us was very interesting because at times, it was wonderful, and at times it really wasn’t. Our writer’s room was in LA, so we had plenty of time where he wasn’t on set… So we had sort of highlight-reel, coming-of-age, romcom shit together, and then we also had, like, batten down the hatches, he’s coming.”
Sophia says the hitting incident made it “very clear” she was off-limits, but not everyone was able to get that message across:
“We knew when he was super obsessed with one girl on our show that he started trying to bang down her hotel room door in the middle of the night.”

The Bachelorette’s production company is speaking out following the news that Lincoln Adim, a contestant on Becca Kufrin’s season, was convicted of assault and battery following an incident that occurred two years before filming for season 14 the show.
“No one on The Bachelorette production had any knowledge about the incident or charges when Lincoln Adim was cast, and he himself denied ever having engaged in or having been charged with any sexual misconduct,” Warner Bros. told Us Weekly in a statement. “We employ a well-respected and highly experienced third party who has done thousands of background checks consistent with industry standards to do a nationwide background check in this case.”
The statement continued: “The report we received did not reference any incident or charge relating to the recent conviction – or any other charges relating to sexual misconduct. We are currently investigating why the report did not contain this information, which we will share when we have it.”
On Wednesday, June 13, Jake Wark, press secretary for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office confirmed to Us that on May 21, Adim was found guilty of indecent assault and battery for groping and assaulting a female on a cruise ship in May 2016.
“He was sentenced to one year in a house of correction, with that term suspended for a two-year probationary period,” Wark told Us. The Bachelorette premiered on May 28, just seven days later. If Admin, 26, follows the terms of the sentencing, he will not have to serve time, “but if he fails to comply with those orders or re-offends, he could be ordered to serve out the year behind bars. By law, he is expected to register as a sex offender,” Wark noted.
The account sales executive, who is still competing on The Bachelorette, was ordered “to stay away from the victim and attend three Alcoholics Anonymous meetings per week during those two years,” according to Wark.
Kufrin, 28, has not yet commented on the situation. Reality Steve was the first to break the news.
