CDC Pushes Back Against Report of Words Like ‘Fetus’ And ‘Transgender’ Being Banned

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is pushing back against a report alleging that the Trump administration had banned the organization from using specific words in next year’s budget documents.

The Washington Post reported the news on Friday, citing an analyst who had been briefed on the ban of seven terms, which was confirmed by other CDC officials. The banned words, according to the Post included “vulnerable,” “entitlement,” “diversity,” “transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based” and “science-based,” and the reason for the ban was not clarified in the briefing.

“I want to assure you there are no banned words at CDC. We will continue to talk about all our important public health programs,” CDC Director Brenda Fitzgerald said in a Facebook post. “I want to assure you that CDC remains committed to our public health mission as a science- and evidence-based institution. As part of our commitment to provide for the common defense of the country against health threats, science is and will remain the foundation of our work.”

The CDC also included a statement from the department of Health and Human Services Department, who called the report a “mischaracterization.”

“HHS will continue to use the best scientific evidence available to improve the health of all Americans. HHS also strongly encourages the use of outcome and evidence data in program evaluations and budget decisions,” the organization said.

Derick Dillard Just Went After Transgender People Again

Now that he's been fired from TLC, Derick Dillard has a lot of free time on his hands.

And the controversial reality star is using said free time to do what got him fired in the first place:

Heartlessly attack transgender individuals at every opportunity.

Yes, just as Dillard went after Jazz Jennings in a series of bigoted Tweets, the former Counting On cast member has once again set his sights on the LGBT community.

Scroll down to see the latest shot Derick fired; to read the reaction to his harsh insult; and to relive Dillard's ugly history when it comes to this topic…

1. The Latest Incident Started with a Video:

The latest incident started with a video
Earlier this week, Dillard shared footage on his Facebook page of transgender singer Laura Jane Grace teaching kids about gender identity.

2. This is a Screen Shot of the Shared Footage:

This is a screen shot of the shared footage
You can see Dillard’s caption: “A friend shared this and called it out for what it is, child abuse! How unfortunate what children are subjected to in the name of progressive understanding.”

3. Facebook Followers Thankfully Clapped Back

Facebook followers thankfully clapped back
HARD. As you can see here, a couple even referenced Josh Duggar in citing what actual “child abuse” means.

4. More Backlash:

These responses do make us wonder why these people were “Friends” with Derick to begin with. But at least they aren’t holding back.

5. Derick Does Have His Supporters, Of Course

Derick does have his supporters of course
Try telling a teenager struggling everyday about who he or she is that this is just a “disagreement” and everyone is entitled to an opinion. Sheesh, people.

Derick Dillard: Fired By TLC Over Transgender Comments!

Derick Dillard is persona non grata at TLC.

The network has gone ahead and made this official.

Derick Dillard on Instagram

Back in August, the 28-year old husband of Jill Duggar made headlines when he attacked 17-year old transgender Jazz Jennings, who, like Derick’s wife and her family, has a show on TLC.

Seemingly unprompted by anything other than the fact that Jennings stars on I Am Jazz, Dillard wrote on Instagram at the time:

“What an oxymoron… a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality. ‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.”

Jennings mostly took the high road in response, labeling Dillard a cyberbully and saying that she’s unfortunately accustomed to remarks from people such as him.

Fast forward to late last week and Derick was at it again, writing the following on Twitter:

I pity Jazz, 4 those who take advantage of him in order 2 promote their agenda, including the parents who allow these kinds of decisions 2 be made by a child.

It’s sad that ppl would use a juvenile this way.

Again, nothing against him, just unfortunate what’s on TV these days.

Ah yes, the classing “nothing against” the person whose lifestyle one thinks is sinful and shameful.

Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar in DC

Derick added that “never bullied anyone,” but “just said I didn’t agree with what is being propagated on TV” and is “expressing my view of what should be treated as reality; if I say I feel like I am Nepali, that doesn’t make me so.”

In response to this most recent attack Jazz did not mention Derick by name.

But tweeted on Saturday:

“In the face of constant ignorance and hatred I prefer to disregard negative opinions and continue moving forward with love.”

TLC, meanwhile, was not as even-handed in its latest statement.

Jazz Jennings for TLC

On its official Twitter account, the cable network wrote this:

We want to let our viewers know that Derick Dillard has not participated in Counting On for months and the network has no plans to feature him in the future.

We want to reiterate that Derick’s personal statements do not reflect the views of the network.

TLC is proud to share the story of Jazz Jennings and her family and will continue to do so.

tlc statement

Some Duggar/Dillard fans, naturally, have fired back, claiming Derick is simply exercising his right to “free speech.”

Which is true. He’s not about to be imprisoned for his view.

But the right to free speech doesn’t mean one can say absolutely anything without any consequences.

The general future of Counting On remains unclear.

There has been chatter of late that the series may not return for a new season, largely due to Dillard’s ongoing controversial comments.

What do you think about what Derick said and how TLC responded?

Should the network finally cut ties with this family once and truly for all?

Transgender Woman Defeats Anti-LGBT Politician in Virginia

Transgender woman Danica Roem defeated Republican Robert G. Marshall, who introduced the controversial “bathroom bill” in Virginia in an election held on Tuesday, November 7.

Celebrity LGBT Allies

Roem, a Democrat, is set to become the nation’s first openly transgender state lawmaker. The 33-year-old former journalist ran against Marshall, a 13-term incumbent who called himself the state’s “chief homophobe,” the Washington Post reports.

Marshall, 73, had previously proposed a measure banning openly gay people from serving in the Virginia National Guard and was the primary sponsor of Virginia’s constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

In 2016, he introduced the anti-transgender bathroom bill that would have required people to use the restroom that corresponded with the gender on their original birth certificates. It would also have required public school principals to notify a child’s parents within 24 hours if he or she asked to be “recognized or treated as the opposite sex.” The bill was rejected in January.

The conservative politician had refused to debate Roem and referred to her throughout the campaign with male pronouns. He also posted an attack ad on Facebook that accused her of “lewd” and “shocking” behavior.

“Discrimination is a disqualifier,” Roem said on Tuesday night as she claimed victory in the election, according to the Washington Post. “This is about the people of the 13th District disregarding fear tactics, disregarding phobias … where we celebrate you because of who you are, not despite it.”

In other election news, Chris Hurst, a former news anchor whose girlfriend was killed in 2015 while reporting on live television, was elected to Virginia’s 12th District on Tuesday night. He defeated Republican Joseph Yost, CNN reports.

Hurst left his job following the death of Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward, who were killed by a former coworker and decided to run for a House seat.

Fans began speculating that Jenner, 68, was dating the Pepperdine University student, 21, after they were spotted walking on the beach together on Sunday, October 29, during a vacation to Los Cabos, Mexico. They both stayed at Las Ventanas al Paraíso, a Rosewood Resort, according to their Instagram posts earlier this week.

Hutchins transitioned in college and once cited Jenner as one of her inspirations. She told her Malibu-based school’s newspaper, Pepperdine Graphic, in December 2016 that the E! personality’s own transition “made it so much more real for [me], like normal and successful people do this and people are OK when they do it.”

Jenner transitioned from male to female in mid-2015 and underwent gender confirmation surgery in January. Since then, the former Olympian — who was previously married to interior designer Chrystie Crownover, actress Linda Thompson and most recently reality star Kris Jenner, has stated that she isn’t in a rush to find love again.

Gay Celebrities’ Coming Out Stories

“I never have [dated a man],” she said on her former E! docuseries, I Am Cait, in March 2016. “To be honest with you, I can’t see myself dating women in the future. I’ve been there, done that. I have three very strong ex-wives. I just don’t see it. I don’t see a woman being attracted to me. If there was a female in my life, it would be more like a friendship than it would be a serious relationship.”

Survivor’s Jeff Varner Fired From His Job After Outing Transgender Contestant Zeke Smith

Survivor’s Jeff Varner Formally Apologizes To Zeke Smith For Outing Him As Transgender — But Has His Apology Been Accepted?

Jeff Varner couldn’t feel worse about outing fellow Survivor contestant Zeke Smith as a transgender man.

As we previously reported, Mr. Smith came out as transgender ahead of Wednesday’s episode of Survivor: Game Changers as he knew footage of a fellow contestant outing him would air on national TV. Since then, Jeff has identified himself as the peer who tried to paint Zeke as “deceitful” for not being upfront with this personal detail. It’s a moment he is NOT proud of.

On Thursday, Jeff has formally apologized to his reality TV peer as he wrote on Twitter:

Now that’s an apology. Nonetheless, Zeke still struggles with fully accepting Jeff’s apology… and we don’t blame him.

In case you missed the episode, after the 50-year-old outed the Brooklyn-based asset manager, he was quickly rebuffed by the others in the tribe. Once realizing he was in the wrong, Jeff apologized to Zeke and pulled him in for a hug.

While Smith accepted the apology in the moment, he’s struggled quite a bit in the months following the show.

Zeke explained to People:

“In the moment, it felt like the right thing to do was accept his apology and say that we’d find a way to work it out, but I don’t really – I really struggle with forgiving him every day. I’ve had to think a lot about what forgiveness is. Forgiveness is not forgetting what happened. It’s not excusing what happened. I don’t even think forgiveness means I have to be his friend — and I don’t think I ever will be his friend.

But I think forgiveness is about hope – hope that he understands why what he did was wrong, hope that he doesn’t ever do something like this again and hope that whatever compelled him to give into his worst instincts in a dark moment is resolved for him. I do wish him the best, I just think I wish him the best from afar.”

Fair enough. In regards to whether or not he thinks his costar “hates” the trans community, Smith noted:

“It’s tough with Varner. I don’t think he hates trans people. I just think he has a lot of misconceptions about trans people. I think if he wants to be an ally to trans people, he has a long way to go…I think you see this tactic used a lot by politicians to pass these so-called bathroom bills and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that he’s from North Carolina, where the most dangerous of these bathroom bills was passed.”

In fact, since Jeff is a gay man, Zeke expected more from him. He continued:

“I think the hardest part is that if he was just some ignorant bigot, you could just write him off, but he’s not. He knows better. I think because he’s gay, people give his words a little more weight and I don’t know if he believes what he said — but he definitely hoped others would.”

What do YOU think? Would you be able to forgive someone who revealed a personal detail about yourself?

ICYMI: Urban Outfitters Refused To Let This Transgender Customer Use Their Preferred Fitting Room!

This is so upsetting.

ICYMI, a transgender customer was not allowed to use their preferred fitting room at Urban Outfitters during a recent visit.

Earlier this week, Nicholas Gorham penned a powerful essay for Mic, detailing the disappointing discrimination they faced when attempting to try on some clothes at the fashion chain.

Related: Michelle Rodriguez Responds To Criticism Over Her Transgender Role

The actor explained that, while they may physically appear to look like a cisgender male — because they haven’t taken hormones, undergone facial electrolysis, and don’t have breasts — they are, in fact, transgender, writing:

“I wear basically all women’s clothing, makeup, and hairdos and I identify as a gender-fluid trans person. I feel completely free in identifying as trans, though I’m conscious of the fact that others may not see me as such right away.”

But, when the New York resident attempted to explain this to an employee at one of Urban’s Los Angeles locations, they were pretty much ignored because of “policy” regulations.

While shopping with their gal pal, Tamara, the friends headed towards the women’s changing area to try on their finds. The performer explained:

“And just as we’ve done for twenty years, I expect to try on the ‘women’s’ clothing I’ve selected in a ‘women’s’ dressing room next to my buddy.”

Sounds perfectly fine to us.

But, while Nicholas’ cisgender female friend was shown to a women’s fitting room, the entertainer was taken to a completely different area.

They detailed the uncomfortable exchange with the employee, recalling:

She could feel the awkwardness and offered: ‘Well the thing is there are young girls over there so I can’t really …’

‘Uh, OK,’ I replied, ‘Well, I’m trans.’

‘I know,’ she said. ‘It’s just that it’s the policy.’

There was a long pause — the tension undeniable. ‘I mean, I guess I can put you in here,’ she finally said, motioning to a spot on the other side of a number of rooms now separating Tamara and I.”

After the terrible experience, Nicholas took to Twitter to vent about the discrimination. It turns out, Urban actually reached out, and offered what appeared to be an incredibly unhelpful solution, writing back:

Nicholas writes that this treatment of transgender individuals is actually incredibly harmful to younger members of the LGBT community, penning:

“My real concern is for the teenager shopping with their best friend who is told they have to change on the other side of the store, based on some CEO’s idea of their gender. What happens to the kid who sees that their identity is only worth acknowledging when a law is passed?”

Alexis Arquette Dies; Transgender Actress, Activist Was 47

Alexis Arquette, a transgender activist and actress best known for her role in The Wedding Singer, has passed away.

She was just 47 years old.

Alexis Arquette Picture

Alexis, a pioneer in the LGBT community, was originally known as Robert. Her brother Richmond Arquette confirmed the star’s passing earlier today.

He wrote in a Facebook post on Sunday morning:

“Our brother Robert, who became our brother Alexis, who became our sister Alexis, who became our brother Alexis, passed this morning.”

Alexis died September 11, at 12:32 a.m.

“He was surrounded by all of his brothers and sisters, one of his nieces and several other loved ones,” Richmond wrote.

Describing Alexis’ final moments, he said: “We were playing music for him and he passed during David Bowie’s Starman.”

Alexis Arquette

“As per his wishes,” Richmond added, fittingly, “we cheered at the moment that he transitioned to another dimension.”

Tragic as the circumstances are, that’s an awesome, uplifting and inspiring attitude for someone about to leave this world.

Alexis’ brother echoed that sentiment in his moving tribute:

“I am feeling immense gratitude to have been afforded the luxury of sharing life with him/her, for learning from Alexis.”

“For being given the gift of being able to love her/him and to be loved by him/her,” Richmond continued.

“He was a force. He died as he lived, on his own terms.”

“I am immensely grateful that it was fast and painless.”

“Thank you, Alexis,” Richmond added, signing off on his emotional public tribute. “I love you and will always love you.”

“It was an incredible moving experience and I am humbled and grateful to have been able to have been with him as he began his journey onward.”

Pretty moving stuff, to say the absolute least.

Sister Patricia Arquette, 48, also paid tribute with two tweets of Alexis’ favorite songs: David Bowie’s “Starman” and T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer.”

“Breaking through the veil singing StarMan,” the Academy Award winner tweeted, adding: “To My first best friend – Cosmic Dancer.”

Fans, friends and colleagues alike have taken to social media to mourn this tragic loss of another star gone too soon from this world.

Boy George, who inspired Alexis’ character in the 1998 hit comedy The Wedding Singer, posted a tribute online as well:

“R.I.P my sister Alexis Arquette. Another bright light gone out far too soon.”

“Love to the family and all that loved Alexis.”

Alexis’ cause of death has not been confirmed as of this report, but more details are sure to follow in the coming hours and days.

Michelle Rodriguez Is Playing A Transgender Assassin In A New Film And People Are Pissed!

When will Hollywood finally learn…

As we reported, Mark Ruffalo received a lot of heat on social media when he casted Matt Bomer as a transgender sex worker in his upcoming film Anything. Many felt an actual trans woman should have been cast in the role instead of a cisgender actor.

Sadly, another film that portrays a trans character is coming out, and people are NOT happy.

In the new film (Re) Assignment, Michelle Rodriguez plays a male assassin who turns into a woman by a rogue doctor.

First off, many are angry that Rodriguez’s character is FORCED to undergo sex-reassignment surgery, which makes it seem like the procedure is a punishment.

Similar with Anything, the film has a cisgender actress portraying a role that could’ve gone to someone who is actually transgender.

On social media, thousands are demanding a boycott of the film. As seen on Instagram:

We just hope the trans community will one day get the representation they deserve!
